NAIS ROTTERDAM SECONDARY AND IB SCHOOL

NAIS Rotterdam’s upper secondary school students have a choice of pathways to graduation: either the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), The International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) which both open doors to top Dutch and international universities, or one of two NAISR High School Diplomas. Providing the perfect blend of challenge and support, our programmes push students to excel academically and personally. They also create principled and independent global citizens ready to shape the future.

THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

One of the leading IB schools in The Netherlands, we offer our students the option to study the two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

Our young people choose an IB Diploma curriculum subject from each of the following groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, and Mathematics. Your child will also choose a sixth subject, which can either be from one of these groups or The Arts. What sets NAISR apart is that we can offer ambitious students the opportunity to study not two, but three sciences – with permission - as part of their IBDP programmeThree IB Diploma curriculum subjects are taken at a higher level and three at a standard level.

Students also complete the IB core subjects below:
The IB core programme:
  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK): a course that explores critical thinking, giving students an understanding of how we learn.
  • The Extended Essay: a 4,000-word independent research project focusing on a specific subject.
  • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS): a range of activities that develop our students’ creative skills and wellbeing, and support our community.

- Emphasises critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and workplace skills
- Graduates are well-prepared for university, apprenticeships, or direct career paths.

THE NAISR ACADEMIC DIPLOMA

The NAISR Academic Diploma is a challenging programme for upper secondary students who want to go on to higher education.

Your child can choose from a range of specialist subjects, including English, modern languages, social studies, history, sciences, maths, and art. To achieve their Diploma, they’ll need to get a minimum of 24 credits (one year of coursework in one subject area is one credit, for example).

The NAISR Academic Diploma is a minimum requirement to get into universities in the United States and Canada. It’s also accepted by higher education institutions in The Netherlands and across Europe.

CHOOSING YOUR PATHWAY

We know that choosing the right option at 16 is a big decision, whether it’s the IBDP, the IBCP, or one our NAISR Diplomas.

It’s important to consider your child’s strengths and interests, as well as their university and career aspirations. It’s also worth researching the qualifications needed to get on to a particular course. Our teachers and pastoral team will guide you through the process.
