Students used their knowledge from the topic text, ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ and learned some basic survival skills to build a shelter, start a fire, read maps, and design a floating raft on which to make their journey home.
The students rotated around 4 stations and completed them all. They were shown how to use 6 figure grid references to find clues and treasure around the school. They were then taught how to build a shelter to protect themselves from all the different weather elements, as well as how to start a fire using a flint and some timber. Finally, using all the knowledge of forces they have been shown in science, they were asked to build a raft and get themselves across the water.
Overall, it was an amazing day and the students learnt so much about survival and will now use this knowledge to write survival guides for our sister school in Mexico.
