Since September, a Maths Challenge Board has been on display for students to take on, which updates fortnightly. All this work towards problem-solving is stretching the boundaries of what is achievable, and our students are rising to the challenge.
At the beginning of November, a group of aspiring top mathematicians at BIS Abu Dhabi, took part in the UK Mathematics Trust Senior Mathematical Challenge. This mathematical competition is aimed at top IB or A level mathematicians, challenging their problem-solving skills.
In Year 13, 8 students achieved an award, with 3 Bronze, 4 Silver and one Gold. Jieun achieved an impressive 95 marks (only 85 marks needed to achieve a Gold award!)
In Year 12, an impressive 10 students achieved an award. With 5 Bronze, 4 Silver and one Gold; Seongwon achieved an incredible 111 marks! Not only was this the best in the year, but the entire school and qualified for the Senior Olympiad, a competition exclusive to the top 1000 students in the world!
A voluntary group of 7 students from Year 11 chose to take on the Senior Challenge, whilst still eligible for the intermediate level. We are incredibly proud of their results, all achieving strong scores with five students achieving a Silver award, and Jeon an incredible Gold award with 96 marks! Such success at a competition targeted at top mathematicians above their age group is a truly remarkably achievement. The Maths department are very proud!
