During the week, students were introduced to the general IB Diploma Programme and the core areas of study, along with taster sessions in their chosen subjects. These ranged from Language and Literature to Modern Languages, from Humanities to Sciences, Mathematics and The Arts. Students were encouraged to be enquirers, thinkers, communicators and risk-takers.
Day 3 allowed students to learn from the ‘expert’ to work on a project based on World War 2 (WW2). The project was a collaboration in groups of six, researching and debating the topic of "Was WW2 a period of progression or regression?" Students were encouraged to challenge themselves, by realising that subjects do not work independently of one another. The IB programme is holistic, therefore understanding how to transfer knowledge and skills to other areas. The final part of the project was to record and present their findings in a confident, engaging, and informative manner.
During the week, students were also invited to explore their ‘future self’, looking at University courses and options beyond post 18. They experienced ‘Generation ‘R’ Talk’ with motivational guest speakers, along with a Question & Answer session with some of the current Year 12 students.
The IB team were impressed with the outstanding contributions and the positive engagement from the students involved. The IB team are looking forward to meeting all IB students in August 2021.
