The Primary School Library explored Haiku poems as part of the National Poetry Day celebrations … “Design a Poster” winners receive certificates … and the Books of the Week.
We enjoyed celebrating National Poetry Day this week by looking at a selection of the poetry books which we have on our shelves and by practising writing our own Haiku poems. Haiku is a Japanese style of poetry which uses only 3 lines of text. The first line has 5 syllables, the second 7 and the last 5. They rarely rhyme.
Our ‘Design a Poster’ competition winners were presented with Certificates of Achievement AND a Kinokuniya book token by Ms Diane, Mr Geoff and Ms Kerry in the library. Here they are with their winning entries and HUGE thanks to Ms Diane and Mr Geoff for coming to help make the presentations...
Here are this week’s Books of the Week. We hope you enjoy them:
Khun Toi couldn’t wait to excitedly open this box as soon as it was delivered this week to remind ourselves of all the lovely new books which we chose a couple of weeks ago using our commission from June’s St Andrews International School Bangkok Book Fair. We will be getting them up on the shelves as quickly as possible so keep an eye out for them on the ‘New Arrivals’ bookcase and we will also be featuring them in our upcoming ‘Books of the Week’.
NAE Global Campus received a staggering 3,300 entries from 66 Nord Anglia schools all around the world, and one student from STA shone bright, winning Best in Show in the Art Music category: a big congratulations to Freya in Year 8 for her truly outstanding achievement and stellar performance!
High School Design and Technology students step outside the classroom to explore design and architecture in Bangkok. Year 8 students visited a uniquely designed café precinct, where they learned from the architect of the precinct himself how thoughtful use of materials, geometry, and landscaping can transform spaces. Meanwhile, Year 12 IB students explored the fusion of modern technology and traditional craftsmanship and the use of natural materials at the impressive studio of renowned Thailand-based architect Patrick Keane.
Sports Day in Primary School is a joyful and exciting event that brings the school community together to celebrate movement, teamwork, and fun. With a wide range of activities—from egg and spoon races to shot put throws—students in Primary compete in House teams, cheered on by teachers, families, and friends. The day encourages physical activity, builds good sportsmanship, and creates lasting memories, making it one of the most special days of the school year.
