Effective learning happens when students are fully engaged, and there’s nothing like some physical activity to help kids get their thinking caps on!
At Champittet, we’ve partnered with learning-by-movement specialists Learn-O to introduce an innovative teaching approach for our young learners. By navigating physical obstacles and puzzles, our students in grades 3 to 7 have been exploring concepts in diverse subjects like geometry, maths and French.
To begin, each student receives cards presenting challenges. How do you solve this language riddle? What’s the answer to this mathematical dilemma? Our students must then find the response – not only by knowing it, but by physically finding the correct answer, hidden somewhere within one of the cones placed throughout the play area! After finding the solution, the next step involves going to a station to check if the answer is right. If it isn’t, then it’s back to square one!
This movement-based approach kept our kids on their toes and having fun. At the same time, the stimulating experience helped to improve skills in concentration, creativity and memorisation. Now that’s what we call active learning!
Collaboration often leads to innovation – and for three days in May, a group of our Champittet students had the opportunity to experience just that with 200 students from across Europe at the NAE STEAM festival in Prague!
