At the British Vietnamese International School (BVIS), our educational approach combines international standards with Vietnamese cultural values, aiming to nurture well-rounded individuals who remain connected to their roots while developing the skills to succeed globally.
BVIS follows the National Curriculum for England, widely recognised for fostering critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability. From Early Years to Primary, students learn in both English and Vietnamese, building a strong language foundation and a broad academic perspective. In Secondary, the curriculum is taught predominantly in English – equivalent to monolingual international schools – preparing students for IGCSE, A-Level, and higher education in international environments.
More importantly, BVIS students don’t just study Vietnamese as a subject – they delve deeply into the language, culture, and history of Vietnam under the guidance of experienced local teachers. This cultural grounding helps students preserve their identity, giving them the confidence to thrive on the global stage.
100% of BVIS’s international teachers hold professional teaching qualifications (PGCE, QTS) and have at least three years of experience in international education. The school implements a rigorous recruitment process, including continuous 10-year background checks – an exceptional standard in Vietnam.
Many of our teachers are also sponsored to pursue a Master’s in International Education at King’s College London, one of the world’s top universities. This exclusive programme is offered to teachers across the Nord Anglia Education group, of which BVIS is a member.
As part of Nord Anglia Education – a global organisation with over 88 schools across 30 countries – BVIS students, teachers and parents benefit from an international learning ecosystem. Students can study in Vietnam while collaborating and connecting with peers worldwide through exclusive global programmes.
BVIS students take part in STEAM projects in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), developing scientific thinking and problem-solving skills. Simultaneously, our performing arts curriculum, delivered in collaboration with The Juilliard School (New York), nurtures artistic appreciation through music, drama, and dance.
BVIS also partners with UNICEF, enabling students to participate in global forums and community initiatives aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – fostering leadership and global citizenship.
In addition, students benefit from the IMG Academy programme, which integrates sports and leadership training, building confidence, discipline and resilience.
Through Global Campus, Nord Anglia’s online learning platform, students access a worldwide community – engaging in debates, collaborative research, and creative challenges that expand their global outlook.
Thanks to a rigorous international curriculum and highly qualified teachers, BVIS students consistently excel in global examinations. In the 2023–2024 academic year:
These outstanding results not only reflect BVIS’s academic quality but also give students a competitive edge when applying to prestigious universities such as Oxford, LSE, UCL, Imperial College London, King’s College London, Columbia, Cornell, Pennsylvania, Sydney, Melbourne, Toronto, and Seoul National University. Each year, many BVIS graduates also earn substantial scholarships from top international institutions.
BVIS is among a select number of schools in Vietnam accredited by two highly respected international education organisations: WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) and CIS (Council of International Schools).
In its most recent reaccreditation report, CIS stated:
“The school’s positive culture and welcoming environment are among its most distinctive strengths. The relationships between students and teachers are built on mutual respect and authenticity. The learning environment fosters connection and inclusion, allowing every individual to thrive.”
These accreditations are a testament not only to the school’s academic excellence, but also to its ethical standards, governance, and social responsibility – offering BVIS students smoother transitions to global education pathways and university applications.
A BVIS representative emphasised that success is not only the destination – it’s a journey of nurturing identity and self-belief. Students are equipped to study and work anywhere in the world with a strong cultural foundation, confidence, and character.
“BVIS is more than just an international school. It’s a place where students grow holistically, feel at home no matter where they are, and – most importantly – truly understand who they are in a global context.”
