Open Days
We walked out of school and on to the bus, bursting with adrenaline and excitement, on our way to NACIS. The ride was great fun, our small Drama group laughing at silly things such as Sofia’s drawn on moustache (ready for the performance, and lots of group selfies were taken. When we reached NACIS, there was an unexpected reunion for Wilson as he met a group of old friends - sharing tight hugs and warm smiles. We walked through the school in search of the theatre. After finally finding the impressive theatre and having a few test runs with the microphones, it was time for the big performance in front of the Grade 10 NACIS students.
First, it was our scene from ‘School of Rock’. The nerves rushed in as it was time to shine. Dazzling lights, colourful costumes and dramatic music - everything came to life! The performance went exceptionally well and then, it was time for the younger NACIS students to perform their piece.
The Grade 5 NACIS students were all dressed up in a light brown military costume. They put on their microphones, reached for their props and were all set for the stage. We all excitedly sat in our seats and watched their marvellous performance. We enjoyed the challenge of understanding the Chinese dialogue and their actions helped to covey the overall message. Their performance was set in the 1900s, at a time when food was scarce. They passed down an apple, but no one ate it as they felt guilty about eating when others were hungry. They then passed it down again after the leader took a bite; everyone following and taking a bite too. I thought their performance was brilliant and all the students were really confident as they spoke.
We all clapped in unison until it was time for the finale performed by us: DNA. The wonderful bright blue lights at NACIS shone down, as eerie suspenseful music chimed throughout the theatre. Once everyone was in position, the white dazzling lights engulfed the stage – it was the start of our final performance. Once the clapping came to an end, we all gathered for a group photo, exchanging thanks and smiles. The ride back was filled with laughter, bringing us all together. It was truly an exciting and emotional day for everyone. We had lots of fun exploring the theatre and meeting new people.
The time had come for our BISS student athletes to showcase their talents in the 2025 Primary FOBISIA Friendly Games. Flagbearers, William Eagle Wang and Lucy Coffin, led us into the stadium under the scorching 34-degree weather with high humidity. Day 1 commenced with athletics and swimming.
BISS film students receive this unique opportunity with the top film producer after winning the Nord Anglia Global Campus Film Festival Competition. This competition involved 960 students from 22 Nord Anglia schools worldwide.
Earlier this year, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Orlando, Florida, to participate in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference (NLC) - an experience that challenged, inspired and rewarded me in unforgettable ways. From the Shanghai Regional Round to the Chengdu National Round, and finally, just a week ago, the Orlando Global Round, our BPA journey over the past six months has been unlike anything we’ve ever experienced.
The team set off to Chengdu to compete in the first NAE Multisports games since 2019. Twenty-one boys and girls, from Years 4 and 5 were looking forward to competing in a two-day tournament of athletics and football. For most of these students, this was their first sports tour and there was a great deal of excitement, sprinkled with a touch of nervousness.
