I gained my PGCE in Geography at Swansea University in 1989 and have now been teaching for over 30 years. I taught at a Catholic school in the South Wales valleys for 9 years before joining the international teaching community in 2000, and my subsequent teaching journey has now seen me at schools in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and now Asia. I previously worked for 9 years at a school in Hong Kong and I am looking forward to being a member of the St Andrews community.
As Wales is my home, this has meant that I am, of course, a huge rugby fan. I also enjoy tennis, golf, and swimming as well as having a passion for travel. I am an enthusiastic volleyball coach. I have coached Varsity Volleyball for the past 15 years and hope to be able to continue this at St Andrews! Unfortunately, my wife and pet cats are still in Wales caring for the family but hopefully, they will all be joining me in the future.
In 1992, I captained the Welsh Tchoukball team in their first-ever international match against England and I always try to promote this sport at any school I teach.
Tchoukball is a fast-paced and fun handball sport. Invented in the late 1960s, tchoukball is a team sport of 7 players that unites all key sporting skills; athleticism, concentration, respect for oneself and the opposition and teamwork.
The reason why it is such a great sport is that unlike mainstream sports such as football, rugby, and basketball, Tchoukball players don't need to be tall, short, light, or heavy to play in their positions.
