A Refuge Called Home: A Story of Compassion, Commitment, and Collaboration

When Ms. Rebecca, one of our EYFS teachers, volunteered with a charity supporting refugee children in Indonesia, she met Maneli, a young artist with a remarkable story. At 13, Maneli was living in a refugee camp, unable to go to school but determined to learn. Inspired by Maneli’s drawings while at the camp, Rebecca wrote A Refuge Called Home, and together they created a book that tells a powerful story of resilience and hope. Maneli illustrated the book, bringing its pages to life with her artwork. Now, three years later Maneli and her family have resettled in Canada, where she has been granted citizenship and can finally pursue the education she once only dreamed of. Every penny from the book’s sales goes directly to her, helping her build a future full of possibilities.

This book is the result of true collaboration: Ms. Rebecca worked closely with her EYFS colleague, Ms. Rowena, who supported the project as Chief Editor, helping to shape the book into the story it is today. Ms. Rebecca’s commitment goes even further. She is now exploring the possibility of launching a project for next year that could give our Sixth Form students the chance to teach refugee children through virtual lessons, offering children like Maneli the same opportunity to learn and to a better future.
