Secondary English KS3 Termly Debates

On 9th and 10th of December，Years 7-9 students were given the chance to debate on a given present-day topic. A debate is a structured discussion where individuals present and defend their viewpoints on a topic, aiming to persuade others with well-supported arguments. It helps students build confidence in articulating their thoughts clearly, overcome the fear of public speaking, and become more self-assured. Debates require thorough research, critical thinking, and consideration of multiple perspectives, encouraging students to evaluate differing opinions thoughtfully. Additionally, debates foster creativity by challenging students to develop innovative arguments and strategies within time constraints. At NAIS Pudong we aim to host this English KS3 debating event every term so that students get a chance to reflect on their own performances and make continual improvements in future opportunities. This term our year 9’s showed for the most confident in their debating skills and is a good indication of the influence of prior debates in English, Global Campus as well as Model United Nations events. Our English teachers are very proud of the hard work our students had put in and look forward to see them strive for greater success next term’s debates.
