Ramadan at NAISAK: Celebrating Faith, Tradition, and Community Unity

Ramadan at NAISAK - Ramadan at NAISAK

As the holy month of Ramadan 2025 unfolds at NAISAK, the school blossoms into a vibrant hub of spiritual reflection, cultural celebration, and community connection. From beautifully crafted Ramadan decorations featuring glowing lanterns and Quranic verses to inspiring student performances, NAISAK embraces the essence of Ramadan with heartfelt enthusiasm.

Garangao Celebration: Honoring Qatari Tradition

Mid-Ramadan, the school hosted the traditional Garangao festival, a joyous occasion that unites students, parents, and staff. Organized by the Arabic, Islamic Studies, and Qatar History department, the event featured students dressed in colorful traditional costumes performing Quran recitations, plays, and traditional songs. The appearance of the Musaharati, the traditional pre-dawn drummer, brought authentic Qatari heritage to life.

Ms. Narmin Asad, Deputy Head of Arabic, shared, “Garangao encourages children to fast and celebrates the middle of Ramadan. The support from parents and students was incredible.”

Parents expressed pride in seeing their children celebrate local culture. Hawaa Ali, mother of three, said, “The school honored the tradition and identity of Qatar… It’s important for students to experience and celebrate our culture.”

Quran Competition: Fostering Spiritual Growth

During Ramadan, NAISAK also held a moving Quran memorization and recitation competition, welcoming over 30 students from diverse backgrounds. The event was a testament to the school’s commitment to deepening students’ connection to the Quran and Islamic teachings.

Mr. Mohamed Khalifa, the event organizer, remarked, “It has been heartwarming to see the positive engagement from students and families during this blessed month.” Arabic learning assistant Ms. Fahima Benkalai added, “It’s a privilege to watch students showcase their talents and excellence.”

Ramadan Question Series: Connecting the NAISAK Community

NAISAK’s innovative Ramadan Question Series on social media invited students, staff, and families to engage daily with thoughtful questions in both English and Arabic. This interactive initiative has fostered unity and shared learning, encouraging families to reflect together and celebrate Ramadan’s values.

Mr. Mohamed Khalifa expressed excitement about the project’s success: “We’re thrilled to see such positive participation. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the community to unite during this special month.”

Embracing Diversity and Tradition

NAISAK’s Ramadan events highlight the school’s commitment to celebrating Qatari heritage while embracing the diverse cultural backgrounds of its students and families. One parent new to the region shared, “It’s wonderful to have different cultures represented at the school and to better understand and appreciate traditions like Garangao.”

Looking Forward

Ms. Asil Adwan, Head of Arabic, reflected, “We aimed to engage everyone—students, parents, and staff. The decorations, performances, Quran competition, and community spirit made this Ramadan truly special.”

At NAISAK, Ramadan is more than a month of fasting; it is a lived experience of faith, learning, and togetherness—where every lantern, every recitation, and every shared smile reflects the spirit of this blessed season.
